how do I make a lesson free. IT is an introduction that will drive sales of other videos. I can place it offsite, but I think it would be good to have it here so that they see that they can purchase them here.

New Author Dashboard, Custom Storefronts and Platform Levels in Beta Release

So, you may have noticed either the site being down for a little while today for maintenance and/or a brand new look to your author dashboard. They both portend to some cool new things afoot at MindBites. Specifically, we’re excited to be rolling out several new key additions to our author publishing platform in a beta release. So what’s new?

1. New and Improved Author Dashboard - Now, we have a much more robust and flexible author dashboard. It includes a completely revised dashboard view, a new Analyze Activity section with some much deeper analytics, a Manage Content section to, well, manage your content more easily, and easy access to all of the the new tools we’ve been rolling out from a bulk uploader to a widget configurator and a custom store creator. You told us you needed something more flexible, and we think this is a strong step in that direction.

2. Dynamic Video Storefronts and Widgets - One area of functionality that has been in a controlled release up until now is the ability to create custom video storefronts as well as dynamic widgets featuring your content. Custom storefronts are simple private label video stores that you can configure to match your existing site, and thus, easily have a video store on your own site. Several authors have already done this and have been very successful. Widgets showcase small catalogs of your content and can be embedded in your blog or anywhere across the web. To check out both custom storefronts and widgets, go to the Design Storefronts area in your Author Dashboard.

3. Expanded Capabilities and Premium Platform Levels - We’ve also been listening to your many requests for different features. From needing additional private stores, to the ability to feature some lessons for free, make content stream-only or price even more flexibly, every author or organization we work with has a slightly different set of needs to maximize their opportunity with their online content. To that end, we are now structuring our author platform into different subscription levels. It will still be free for someone to sign up and sell some lessons via MindBites, but now we can offer a range of higher value capabilities to those of you who really need and want them.

So what does this mean for you?
Existing Authors - For all you existing authors, don’t worry. We value your loyalty and efforts in helping us to build MindBites, and we’ll be grandfathering you into your current usage level through most of 2010 (look for an email with details). Thanks for your continued support, and please keep it coming.

New Authors - We’re excited to have you here, and now, more than ever, we have a range of tools you can use to help you build out your online video content monetization efforts. Take a look around and upgrade now to lock-in these introductory rates for our premium platform levels.

Roll-out and Expected Wrinkles
Expect a few hiccups and strange things in your data over the next week or so. We changed quite a bit both on the exterior and under the hood. For one, right now you will have only about a week’s worth of data on your content. This will be built out to all of your history over the next few days. We also have very little front-end details on the different platform levels, capabilities etc. Look for more of this to be rolled out over the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, please take it all for a spin, and let us know what you think and what you’d like to see us add as we continue to build out our platform levels. As always, thanks for your support.

New MindBites feature: Series Creation

Authors now have the ability to group a collection of related lessons into a series. They can then sell the series for either the collective cost of the combined lessons or at a reduced cost. Lowering the price of your series is a terrific way to incentivize customers and generate lesson sales.

I notice that there are a list of Top Videos below the data chart, is there a way to see a list of all my videos? I can’t find an easy way to change the list. Also, is there a way to see what videos or series have sold. For example, if I go to my page and my current earnings are $10 then I go back and they are $31 is there a way for the new sale videos to be listed where the Top Videos are? I’m always just curious as to which videos have sold.

Best Consumer HD camera and Mics Recommendations

Hi,

We recently borrowed a friend’s Canon HD camera and some mics and had a big problem with the audio. This is, when no-one was speaking, either the mic or the camera amplified the background ambient noise A LOT. The ambient noise would go away once the subject with the mic started speaking. We couldn’t find any setting in the camera dealing with gains and the mics didn’t have anything like that either as you could only adjust the frequency. In other shootings, when no-one was speaking, instead of the background noise being amplified, there would simply be no sound (or almost no sound) which is what we’d expect and what we want.

Now we’re trying to buy a good HD camera/mics combo that would solve the above problems resulting in videos with great audio. We need to record dance lessons with 2 instructors at a time. Both instructors need to have mics (lavalier) at all times. The camera will be static about 15-20 feet away from the instructors.

I was wondering if anyone would have some recommendations for a great low price HD camera (ideally under $600) and good lavalier mic system to go along with it (also on the low-price end)?

As far as the camera, do you recommend built-in hard-drive or with a tape? I’d much rather a built-in HD if the image quality is good enough for videos to be posted on the web.
As far as the mic, do we need anything extra to be able to record the audio that comes from both mics to the camera?

Ok, just discovered this site, and it seems cool ! But when I try to buy something with my credit card it says this:

Your credit card could not be authorized
Your credit card number was invalid; please input a valid credit card number, expiration date, and provider below and then proceed.

Well I put in a valid credit card number, and a valid expiration date, but there’s no place to put in the provider thingy ! And yes, I am 100% sure that there is enough money available on the card.

This is stupid! please help

New Dimension Options for Embeddable Lesson Preview Player

It seems like everyday we are coming out with a new toy for our lucky MindBites Associates to play with. What is the new addition to the toy box this week? Well, we are rolling out some new customizable options for our lesson preview embed player. What does that mean? Let me explain.

Every MindBites lesson page contains a section labeled “Embed this video on your site” (which can be found on the lower right hand side of each lesson page). This section contains an embed code that is unique to each lesson and enables MindBites users to insert a video player with a preview of that lesson on their site.

In the past, there was only one size option (480x360) available for users who wished to post a preview of a lesson on their site. And there is nothing wrong with only having one option…but we think having 4 is better! So, that is what we now have; MindBites Associates can choose from video preview players with the following dimensions: 480x360, 336x280, 300x250, and 250x250!

These new, smaller size dimensions allow MindBites Associates more freedom when promoting lessons on their site. The video player will now fit nicely on your site’s sidebars, within your blog posts, and anywhere else you wish to promote great MindBites content. And, of course your Affiliate code is auto-magically included within the embed code of the players, making sure you get all of the credit you deserve.

Once you start to use this fancy new feature, please let us know what you think. Is it easy to use? Are there other features or changes that would be helpful?
