In changing over our forums, we’ll lose a couple threads that weren’t necessarily close out.  Here’s one…

Ethabella: I am depressed, Firefox froze while trying to login, while it never occured in IE7, what is wrong?

Me: Hey Ethabella! Yikes – strange that you’re running into troubles with FF. I know this is a standard help desk response, but did it work okay for you after closing down FF and then re-opening and navigating back to the page? I had a problem where Chrome did something similar last week but was fine once I closed out of the jillion tabs and windows I had open and started over again… Let me know if it’s still giving you problems or freezing up on you. If it is, can you also tell me what version of FF you’re using (and confirm that you’re using a PC).

Ethabella: Hello ht1979, the version of my Firefox is 2.0.0.20. The same issue occured again on my laptop.

I did some digging around on this, and it looks like you aren’t the only one running into problems with this version of FF. One option would be to upgrade to FireFox 3, which you can do by going to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/.

If you’re pretty set on using FF 2, my best guess as to the root of the problem is likely an add-on that is sucking up large amounts of resources. Figuring out which one it is isn’t as easy as we’d like, unfortunately. I’d start by disabling all of them and then slowly adding them back with time in between to see which one might be the culprit. Once you find which one it might be, presuming it’s one you really want to keep, I’d check to see if there’s an update for it.

If that doesn’t fix the issue, I would seriously think about upgrading to 3.0… I think most of the app developers have now caught up to 3 such that virtually all of your trusty FF add-ons can be used there. :)

Lemme know if this works!
