Going to the gym can be intimidating enough without knowing the ‘rules’. What are the ‘rules’? Well, there’s something of an unspoken code of etiquette that you only learn over time. There may be some slight variation across gyms, but the things listed in this video are pretty standard in any workout facility. The host will walk through all these of ‘rules’ for polite gym behavior, which cover everything from sweating to smelling to attire to grunting to cell phones to laundry to working in to equipment usage.
It’s scary enough to start going to a new gym (or start going to your first gym especially), but you’ll be ahead of the game if you already have an idea of what gym behaviors are considered to be polite (and not so polite) when you arrive. This will help alleviate some of your concerns about whether you’re blending in appropriately and will also help to endear you to your fellow gym patrons.
And, if you're not a newbie at the gym, you may still be wondering why people turn up their nose at you or look at you askance. It may well be because you're offending them with something you're doing. This video should shed some light on whatever your offending behavior might be.
