In this lesson, Derek takes us into the sport of Curling with the West Coast Curling Club. Curling is a winter olypics sport that can be played from 5 years old to 90 years old. Curling has been increasing in popularity by leaps and bounds lately given its strategic and competitive aspects. Where the game is more about strategy and skill than strength and agility, those attributes can still help you with your game (in a typical game a curler walks almost 2 miles). Curling certainly has its own set of rules and jargon. In curling, the sheet of ice has two ends, both of which have a house (or target area where you want your ‘rocks’ to end up at the end of the game). The four-player team with their rocks closest to the center of the house at the end of the game wins the points. You deliver (or throw) your rock towards the other end starting at the ‘hack’ (something like starting blocks for track). The hack gives you traction on the ice that would be difficult to otherwise manage. There is a lot of sweeping involved in the game; sweeping makes the ‘stone’ travel further and reduces its ‘curl.’

As a personal lifestyle fitness guru and trainer, I have had the good fortune to work with some of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities (John McEnroe, Demi Moore, Maria Shriver, Tatum O’Neil, and Michael J. Fox) and most recently, I got the opportunity to serve as both host and executive producer of Urban Fitness TV on the Fit TV channel. After working with an extensive list of high performance athletes, high fashion models and actors who have little time to work out, but still have to look as if they live at the gym, I created the ‘focus touch’ visualization technique that can boost the effectiveness of any exercise. This technique is part of the Body Noble Method, which is a safe,...
