Yasamina Ramzy, of the Arabesque Dance Company, talks belly dancing with Urban Fitness TV. Belly dancing is the American name given to a middle eastern form of dance that is characterized by hip and belly movements. It originated not as a form of entertainment, but as a birthing ritual and is most commonly performed for other women in the Middle East. Yasamina discusses why women love the art of belly dancing, how the dance is performed, and how it uses the different muscle groups in the body. She explains that the most difficult part of the dance is learning how to relax the muscles in the body that aren't being used. The dance can be decpetive, because it looks as though the hips are doing all the work, when in actuality, the hips are being moved by the legs and stomach. Belly dancing can improve muscle tone, posture, and coordination.

This technique is part of the Body Noble Method, which is a safe,...
