Twenty-Four hour races have become the new trend in mountain biking. Riders compete to make the most laps in one full day. Twenty-four hour riding is not for beginners, but for bikers who have previously competed many times. These competitors have to be able to ride their bikes at night. The athletes battle each other, but also have to deal with the added complications of night riding, fatigue, and lack of food. To get started mountain biking or night riding, you will need a reliable mountain bicycle, good lights, a helmet, water, good tires, and a comfortable seat. Most people will burn about 25,000 to 30,000 calories during this type of bike ride.
