Jamie Ivey, a long track speed skater, talks about speed skating. He started out as a hockey player and ended up racing in speed skating. Speed skating can be traced back to the 1700's. The first official events were held in Oslo in 1863. Speed skating athletes from around the world train at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta, where this lesson is filmed.
There is a lot of training involved. Speed skating requires a combination of strength, endurance, power and technique.
