Bharata Natyam is a classical Indian dance and one of the oldest dance forms in the world. In India the performing arts all carry spiritual significance. Bharata Natyam is a way of worship and is rooted in religious and spiritual ideals.
This video covers the Namaskaram and Mudras. Namaskaram is done at the beginning and end of a dance to give thanks to God, Guru, and the audience. The Mudras are hand gestures, using either one or two hands, that all carry meaning and are used to convey both emotions and narrative.
