In this lesson you will learn one of the most fundamental patterns in Salsa: the Cross-Body Lead. In this salsa move, the leader will guide the follower from one side of the slot to the other by opening up on a 90 degree angle to the left and leading the follower across the slot on a straight line.

To learn the cross body lead, you only need to know the basic step in Salsa dancing and understand the mechanics of leading with the upper body in closed position.

Intro to Salsa Dancing: The Cross Body lead explains both the leader’s footwork as well as the ladies footwork. This lesson includes demonstrations in the 2 most popular dance styles: On1 (aka “L.A. Style”) and On2 (aka "New York Style"). In the L.A style, the leader breaks forward with his left foot on the first beat of the measure while the follower breaks back with her right foot. In the New York style, the follower breaks forward with her left foot on the second beat of the measure while the leader breaks back with his right foot.

Whether you are new to Salsa dancing or a seasoned pro, this lesson will explain how to execute the cross body lead pattern tremendously.
