This lesson is part of the series: How to Make Pottery: Wedge, Throw, Trim
Learning how to center the clay is one of the most important elements when learning to throw pottery on the wheel. In this lesson Cindy Clarke of Out of the Fire Studio demonstrates how to center the clay, how to open the clay, and then how to pull the clay up to form a cylinder. The lesson ends with a demonstration of what not to do. Lesson three (http://www.mindbites.com/lesson/1602) demonstrates the proper form.

I am the husband of Cindy Clarke, a lifelong potter. Together we have operated out of the Fire Studio in Alberta Canada for the past 10 years. We have sold wholesale, retail, tried our hands at running a gallery, but always centred (no pun intended)on pottery. These days when I'm not helping Cindy in the studio I am usually in front of the computer working on websites and video.
