This lesson in Microsoft Excel teaches you the concept and usage of absolute and relative cell references within formulas to analyze your data. a cell is the intersection of a column, noted by a letter, and a row, noted by a number. The cell reference is the combination of the letter and number. For example, the first cell in a spreadsheet is A1. When you create your own formulas, you usually need to reference cells within the spreadsheet. A relative cell reference will adjust the formula by changing the cells referenced as you drag to copy. An absolute formula will maintain a reference to a certain row, column, or cell as you drag to copy the formula.
