Painting with Acrylics: Layering Technique

I am a beginner at painting, having had only a few lessons in the past.I loved this lesson and learned a lot. I am keen to go and give it a try straight away. I think this definitely was good value for money.
This is a great introduction to how to build a painting up in layers to create a work that has complexity and vibrancy. It is not intuitive for a beginner to start painting with colours other than those you expect to see in the finished painting. Polly demonstrates from the very beginning how to work with warm and cold colours, creating shadow and light and finally applying fine details to a painting.
Technically, I had a few problems. 1) The download was extremely slow. I do not think this was a problem at my end. 2) I was not able to save the file to my computer as I don't have Quicktime pro. 3) The sound drops a little low in the last 10 minutes making it a strain to hear what Polly is saying at times. Having said this, none of these issues would stop me from buying more of this type of lesson.

This is a great way to learn acrylics. And it is a wonderful refresher course for those who have been away from the canvas for so long.

Polly is an incredible teacher--I learned so much from her just by watching this one lesson. She inspired me to paint without fear, and how to infuse my paintings with vibrancy and life. I'm so excited to pick up my brush and see what can happen now!! Polly is an amazing artist, and also has the gift of being a truly wonderful teacher.

I have taken painting lessons from Polly for several years. I have learned so much from her. This lesson in underpainting is so helpful in understanding how to apply her techniques. I could not paint before, it is amazing how this works, I would reccomend this video to anyone, regardless of how much or how little they know.

There is so much information packed into that little video that I know that I will have to see it many times but now I can pick up that brush and I am sure the results will be great if I just follow those steps and not be second guessing myself!! I am serious. I have been taking personal lessons from Polly every week for the last 6 months and through her underpainting technique, I have become a much better painter. This technique works! She helps you become better at drawing, as well as learn how to paint with lots of colors. It seems difficult to grasp at first but underpainting is actually really simple. This lesson is so worth it!
