This lesson is part of the following series:

Hair Basics - straightening hair & clipper cuts (2 lessons, $3.96)

Crystal shows how to do a basic men's haircut using clippers. For a men's cut, you will need clippers (with a 3 guard), scissors, thinners, a comb, and a trimmer. Crystal makes a recommendation on guards and demonstrates techniques to use when cutting the hair, guiding you using different bones/areas of the head. She even teaches how to blend the new cut with facial hair and sideburns and style it.

Extremely helpful! As a cosmetology student we did get a lot of clipper cutting instructions. It was all trial by error, so was extremely frustrating.

Thank you :)

Thanks for the decent video, showing step by step. it was affordable, too. I went to a Sassoon Academy connection school, and was NEVER taught clipper cutting, to any real extent. We got clippers in our kits, but we weren't allowed to do them on the salon floor. In REAL life, I had to start SOMEWHERE, and some of the "in out out" fast clipper cut places were the only ones hiring at the time (unless I wanted to assist somewhere and wait a year to actually DO hair.) I have an audition in 3 hours, and still had no real IDEA how to use them, and this really helped. The gal at the salon wants to see a #3 taper, finished off with the shears. This put my mind at ease, as I wasn't even sure HOW far to go with the clipper. I know how to rick it with shears, but it takes WAY longer. I am cutting my kid's hair, so if I mess up, he won't be mad. HEE HEE. Plus, I can always "buzz" it off with the clippers, right? Just kidding.

Thanks,
Rainbo

This is a great video and it helps you understand how to connect the lines and points of a man's basic haircut! Thank you for making this video, well worth the 8 quarters or 200 pennies I spent on it. I hope you have a video for basic highlight techniques:)

While the preview to get you to buy comes up extremely quickly, the full version (after you buy) never loads - despite my having an extremely fast connection (3mbs). I have tried multiple browser and attempted to download the video - only to be met by some obscure web errors from their site. Dont waste your time, ill be getting my money back

The instruction by Crystal is clear (crystal clear...get it?) and easy to understand. A few more rounds of this video and I'm good to go. Watch out for Quickdraw McGraw...yeehaa!

Basic clipper cut review

Easy to follow instructions. I have the lesson on file now and have cut my 12 year old son's hair twice since the purchase. I was shocked at how well it had turned out both times. The first time I cut his hair I allowed enough time to go to take him to Quick cuts, (a local hair cutting shop), to fix my expected blunders but there was no need, looks great! In addition to saving money, it is time that my son and I can spend a few more minutes together and to show him that I care. Strongly recommend the lesson !

I find that this video was VERY easy to follow. Instructions were understandable to an "unprofessional" like me who just wants to cut my husband's hair with a basic clipper cut. I am 46, we've been married 27 years and I have NEVER cut his hair. This video made it possible and for the small $2 fee - it was worth it! I'm sure that with more practice and watching this video that I'll do even better each time! Thanks for the lesson!

Crystal's lesson really helped me learn how to cut my two teenage sons' hair. They were both pleased with the result. It will save me at least $300 a year, plus save the time and gas going to the salon takes.

This was great! I think Crystal was dressed very nicely, too. :) I've been looking everywhere for something that would really help me cut my hubby's hair at home, and this definitely will. So thanks, Crystal!

Update:
After actually using this video to cut my hubby's hair, I wanted to rewrite my review. Really good! In the past, I've always tried to cut his hair using only clippers, thinking scissors would be too hard. But when you know how to do it, they actually make it easier and give you more control. His hair looks GREAT! Thanks!

I think I will try it. It would be nice in the future if Crystal could be a bit more modestly dressed. I found it somewhat distracting.

This is a great video on how to give real men's haircut, not some clipper all over or Flo-be (sp?) special! Crystal does a great job explaining what she's doing every step of the way, and not cutting any corners. Great, great, great lesson. Would be great to see Crystal show some other types of haircuts!

Room for Improvement - Overall the content and production worked really well. Only small thing I noticed was that the white balance would go dark every once in a while. I'm guessing the camera was using a single spot balance and everytime her arm crossed the center of the screen it would ratchet the balance down, and then back up again as she moved away. Is there a way to use matrix or multispot white balancing. I'm sure I'm getting all my terms wrong, so someone please correct me. Regardless that it a very minor nit. Overall, great video!!!
