In this video, Data View web part (which comes with SharePoint Designer) is used to fetch data from Database tables. The data is then formatted using conditional formatting. Web Part connections are created from one web part to another to create a parent/child relationship of the information.
Even more importantly, in this screencast, it is shown how you can even edit your data in your database using the Data View web part. Lastly, a Master Page is attached to the pages to give them the site's look and feel. This is all done without coding!
