In this lesson you will learn how to make your own set of baby sign language flash cards. Both the words and images for the front of the card are supplied in a pdf file for the front of the card. You will also receive, as part of this lesson, 30 pictures and their descriptions of how to make the signs for each word supplied. All of the signs provided in this lesson are American Sign Language (ASL) signs. You can personalize these cards by adding your own photographs to the 'mommy', 'daddy', 'grandma', 'grandpa' and 'family' spots.
This craft is fun and easy to do, the hard work is taken care of for you!

Thanks 07/23/2008

First of I would like to Thank You for making signing much easier and fun for my children . I have a 15 month old and a 4 year old.My baby knows 14 signs already. I started when she was 6 months, But i've been showing Baby signs videos since she was 3 months. Now my baby is at the point where i ask her for a sign like Apple, she does the sign and she picks up the card. My 4 yr old has also been doing great with learning her signs It is also helping her with her spellig. These cards really made it easy for both of my kids, Thank you yet again for facilitating the signing for me and my children.

How to add your picture 07/09/2008

Hi Kelly,

Great question as I'm sure other people will benefit from knowing how to do this.

1. What you want to do it drag a picture into Word.
2. Make sure that you have your 'formatting palette' up. You can find this under 'view'. On your formating palette you will see a little button that that will crop your picture.
3. You'll want to crop it and then resize it to fit in the spot that I've provided for you.
4. Finally, what you are going to want to do is put a text box around it. You can do this by making sure you have the picture selected and then make sure your 'drawing' toolbar is selected (you'll find this under 'view' and then 'toolbars') select the A button in the toolbar (text box button). You can keep the box around or you can select no fill and no color (these look like a little pencil and paint can).
5. Then simply cut & paste your picture with text box under Mommy (or you can write the word Mommy under your picture.

If you are having trouble, email me your picture and I'll do it for you and send it back to you (laura@mysmarthands.com)

Cheers!
Laura
