In this tutorial, Tony shows you a fun and easy way to make personalized and unique pictures with your camera.
All that's really needed is a camera (film or digital), a light source (like a flashlight) and a dark place!

- Missing Info
- 02/05/2009
-
Lovely, as far as it goes...but What's missing is info about exposure timing. How long does one leave the shutter open for best results? How fast to move the light source? Sure, we can experiment, and we did/do -- but I'd expect a tutorial to at least mention this important element of light painting. I know, I know: what do I expect for two bucks! Still...

I would be glad to show you some tricks and tips;

I would like to see more stuff from you. The lighting on your personal
image for example. Were is the light, how strong. I'm an amature but take some really good shots. I'm always looking to become better with the things I do. Most of my settings are camera controlled for a specific thing. I would like to get out of that to play with manual settings more.I used to photograph cars from a distance with the shutter open.
Some were good some were bad.So Get to taping

Interesting, I had no idea real player could do that. Do you know if it will do that to RAW photos as well?
You also make a good point that you can turn on/off the flashlight to make separate lines! -
- yep

It's a good tutorial but it is not complete,
to have best conditions to do lightpainting :
-a remote control to open the camera far away from it, it's very practical!!
- if you are using a digital camera and if you have an electric source you can make connection between the camera and the computer, in order to have immediatly the image in a big size and many people can see it. You can use realplayer to always have fullscreen image just after downloading.
-if you want to do lightgraff, writing or calligraphy you can hide a part of the light to do just a line of light. So letters are more graphics.
If you like photography try to choose a beautifull point of view.
I hope those elements will serve you, sorry if my english is not good...

Yes, we all know an overzealous (and stupid!) friend of mine broke something; however, its been fixed, after I myself called attention to it. Mindbites reset my votes to the proper number and we still came on strong. If by creativity you mean telling my friends and everyone I know about it, then yes, that's exactly what I did. It wouldn't mean anything if we cheated or won illegitimately, and all my friends and supporters know that. Good day sir!
[I SAID GOOD DAY!]@DDSunrise- Yes, you see it a lot on TV actually; Sprint did a cool commercial series involving it! Oddly enough I see it often in movie theater previews...weird..

great vid tony
to the hater- nobody said the lesson had to be original, but judging from the views there are a number of people that found it interesting enough to pass along to others. as for the votes- you're allowed to vote once a day, and i know for a fact that almost everyone is doing that for this video. -

The music was cheese in the best of possible ways. Everyone remembers watching videos in school or just any education video that they had great visuals, good transitioning, and most importantly, the cheesy but catchy music. This video is just like one of those, only this had better visuals, some of the best transitions, AND a very catchy and simple music track. All my votes go to you. I hope to see more videos by the person/people who made this.
By the way, the other videos were also good, and they deserve some recognition too. Good work everyone who submitted a video, and I hope this site continues to be a friendly and learning environment for everyone who views and/or uses this website.

- Tfokeefe..jealous or what?
- 07/30/2008
-
yea tfkeefe how could they get so many votes in so few days its as if they have a good video or they're popular or something

And as for many votes I know me an my family and friends vote every day just so a loser like you dosent beat out that kids hard work . And might I add nana nana poo poo
-
- Thanks!
- 07/30/2008
-
No, I did not invent this technique.
I did, however, invent the internet, along with Al Gore.
So...Thanks for the kind words, tfokeefe!
Does this mean I have your vote? -
- Cool!
- 07/30/2008
-
It's a shame you learned how to do this in high school in 1976 instead of learning proper English, eh Tfokeefe?
Anyway, light painting is a lot of fun and this is a great instructional video for it!
