Basic principles of rough framing: Part 1. Mike the how to guy begins his series on rough framing, with the first installment on how to rough frame a wall.
Mike takes you through the step by step process and all the principles of framing a wall including defining the terms such as studs, base plate, horizontal plate and framing plate. He also takes you through the required tools and how they are used: circular saw, framing hammer, 16 penny nails, tape measure, pencil and speed square.
Mike does an excellent job of explaining the layout of the studs and how to calculate the measurements for the stud length, top plate, base plate and framing plate. At the end of the lesson, you will be shown how to nail the studs to the top and bottom plate and how to nail the entire wall frame together. The finished product is a completed wall frame.

I had no idea how to frame a wall but I do now after watching Mike take us through some very simple wall framing steps. He goes through the tools needed to frame a wall and actually shows us the calculations for determining the stud lengths and layout for the studs.
