In this 18-lesson series, we'll look at several applications of integral calculus. Integrals and calculus are used to find the average value of a function, the volume of a cross section, the volume of a disk, the volume of a washer, the amount of work done, the length of an arc that is a part of a function, and the center of mass for a continuous object. For each of these calculations, we'll review the explanation behind how they work and we'll look at examples of problems involving them.

The shell method and disk methods will be covered as alternatives to calculating the volume of a solid of revolution (or disk or washer). Hooke's law will also be covered; it provides a formula for calculating the force needed to pull a spring a prescribed distance.

Taught by Professor Edward Burger, this series comes from a comprehensive Calculus course. This course and others are available from Thinkwell, Inc. The full course can be found at http://www.thinkwell.com/student/product/calculus. The full course covers limits, derivatives, implicit differentiation, integration or antidifferentiation, L'Hopital's Rule, functions and their inverses, improper integrals, integral calculus, differential calculus, sequences, series, differential equations, parametric equations, polar coordinates, vector calculus and a variety of other AP Calculus, College Calculus and Calculus II topics.
