In these 34 lessons, we'll learn about what biologists believe about the evolution of life on earth. We'll start this study with coverage of the taxonomy (classification system) that biologists use to categorize different living organisms. Then, we'll look at several different classifications of life, including organisms in Domain Archaea and Domain Bacteria.

Then, we'll look at Protists and the origin of the Eukaryota. Protists are a diverse group of eukaryotic microorganisms. They can be either unicellular or multicellular without specialized tissues, but in general, their simple cellular organization distinguishes them from other eukaryotes (organisms whose cells all have a nucleus). There are several different types of protists (or protozoa) which we'll look at, including archaezona, euglenozoa, alveolata, and stamenopila.

Next, we'll use the notion of plant phylogeny to study evolutionary relatedness between different plants in order to understand the evolutionay history of different types of plants. In this two-lesson series, we'll look at Plant Phylogeny how plants colonized the earth and how 'alternation of generations' or 'alternation of phases' impacted this colonization by plants. This notion describes the life cycle of plants, fungi and protists, in which a multicellular diploid phase alternates with a multicellular haploid phase.

Our next lessons will dig into the idea of alternation of generations. The concept of alternation of phases (or alternation of generations) describes the life cycle of plants, fungi and protists. In these life cycles, a multicellular diploid phase alternates with a multicellular haploid phase. We'll look specifically at how this works in mosses, ferns and gymnosperms.

We'll also cover angiosperms, fungi, invertebrates, deuterostomes, chordates, viruses, and prions. Further, we'll study the evolution of the Animal Kingdom in particular and we'll look at cellular and molecular development bases.
