The 10 lessons in this series will teach you about the chemistry of acids and bases.

The first part of this series will cover acid-base concepts. Starting things off will be a lesson about Arrhenius/Bronsted-Lowry Definitions of Acids and Bases. Bronsted-Lowry acids donate protons in solution, while Bronsted-Lowry bases accept protons in solution. A strong acid or strong base completely dissociates in aqueous solution, whereas weak acids and weak bases only partially dissociate in aqueous solution. Acid strength is not related to concentration. The next part of this series will teach us about hydronium, hydroxide, and the pH scale. A proton (H+) can be solvated by varying numbers of water molecules; hydronium ion (H3O+) is the simplest expression of this hydration. H3O+ is a more realistic expression of how a proton behaves when dissolved in water than H+. The dissociation constant of water (Kw) represents the self-ionization of water (H2O splitting into H+ and OH
