This four-lesson series focuses on reactions in solution. Three types of metathetical (double replacement) reactions are introduced. Reactions producing a precipitate use the solubility rules, and neutralization reactions cover the four types typically seen. The third type of metathetical reactions, formation of gases, is followed by a study of electrolytes. Differences between strong and weak acids, as well as strong and weak bases are noted. How to write net and total ionic equations is discussed at length. The third lesson introduces the three types of solutions, followed by concentration of solutions (percent by mass, v/v, and m/v) with emphasis placed on molarity. Assays are explained. The final lesson looks at dilution of solutions; calculations from chemical equations (Stoichiometry) are the focal points, here. PPM and PPB are explained.
In addition to the video lessons included in this series, you will also get access to lesson-specific note guides that can be viewed and downloaded once this lesson is purchased. These lessons are part of a full course, College Chemistry I (Inorganic) that is available through MindBites or in DVD format from the Chemistry Professor

Below are the descriptions for each of the lessons included in the series:
-
College Chemistry 1: Reactions in Solution 1
Three types of metathetical (double replacement) reactions are introduced. Reactions producing a precipitate uses the solubility rules. Neutralization reactions cover the four types typically seen.
In addition to the full video lesson, you will also get access to a lesson specific note guide that can be viewed and downloaded once this lesson is purchased. This lesson is part of a full course, College Chemistry I (Inorganic) that is available through the series listed above or in DVD format from the Chemistry Professor’s website at http://chemistryprofessor.com/college_chemistry.htm. The full course addresses those topics recommended for inclusion in the first semester of a two semester college chemistry majors course. The essential topics covered in College Chemistry I are: measurements, calculations, matter, energy, elements, compounds, nomenclature, equations, types of reactions, the mole, stoichiometry, atomic theory, the periodic table, bonding theories, gases, liquids, solids, solutions, thermochemistry, and an introduction to oxidation-reduction. These topics are all addressed at the college level, with the understanding that students have some chemistry background. Those students with no chemistry background at all should consider Professor Etheridge’s Fundamentals of Chemistry lessons or full course prior to undertaking this college-level chemistry course.

College Chemistry 1: Reactions in Solution 2
The third type of metathetical reactions, formation of gases, is following by a study of electrolytes. Differences between strong and weak acids, as well as strong and weak bases are noted. How to write net and total ionic equations is discussed at length.
